Airbnb
Airbnb Experiences are activities designed and led by inspiring locals. From waterfall hikes in Costa Rica, to beekeeping on Brooklyn rooftops, they go beyond typical tours or classes by immersing guests in each host’s unique world. It’s an amazing product, with huge opportunity to scale and empower both small businesses and social impact enterprises.
I worked on two main Experiences projects. A merchandising design sprint, and a long-form editorial series profiling extraordinary Experiences hosts from around the world.
The Locals
The Locals is a pilot documentary series featuring three Airbnb Experiences hosts with extraordinary perspectives on their hometowns. Meet the taxidermist preserving London’s supernatural history, the mountaineer saving Costa Rica’s forgotten waterfalls, and the New York street photographer putting selfies to shame with his vintage camera.

Merchandizing 3.0
The goal of the merchandising design sprint was to turn up the magic dial throughout the entire Experiences product platform. In conjunction with design, UX, and content strategy, we completed a 10 week sprint to help transform an inventory of listings into a more editorial (and seamless) flow inspired by the DNA of Airbnb Magazine.

We also evolved our video storytelling. From city features to individual host portraits, we explored various formats and formulas to find the perfect editing balance between clarity and magic, 'clagic' as the VP of Product Marketing calls it. We shot several films to determine talent, direction and location best practices - creating a global production playbook.
